WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. FIREARMS FROM THE EARLY YEARS.

Westley Richards Tom Thumb 64 Bore Rifle The Westley Richards Tom Thumb Gun. 64 bore Rifle.

It has been wrong for me to assume that everyone has a copy of our book, an assumption which has led to my not posting many of the photographs from the publication on the basis that they have all been seen before!

We have a great history, one which we are very proud of and with that in mind it is a pleasure to show a selection of guns from the early years of the company which I hope show the diversity of products made in these times.

All Photographs are by Terry Allen.

  1. We would love to learn more about the single barrel muzzle loading pigeon gun with the extraordinary engraving and how that engraving has inspired new guns. Perhaps illustrated by images of the old and new juxtaposed?

  2. I have a Richards flintlock 12 gauge It is in poor condition, missing hammer. Looking for parts and what is the value of this gun.

  3. Upon further inspection it says Richards not W.Richards or Westley Richards. It appears to be older than 1812 when Westley Richards started manufacturing. It is a flintlock with a flashpan not a breech gun

  4. Recently acquired a Westley Richards 8 bore percussion double rifle with poly groove rifling that has no serial number. The only marking is letters HC on underneath of barrel rib. Action is plain but of similar configuration to the 4 bore fowler pictured on this web site. It also has brass furniture and a large patch box. Is there any information available for this gun and would you like to see some photos?

  5. Believe early Westley Richards double 12 muzzle loader. Looks so much like WR, Fine laminated steel on rib, and Gold blowout plugs under nipples. Will send photo if interested.

  6. I own a Westley Richards percussion 14 bore fowler. This shotgun is complete with original rod. The key features are the following: ‘Westley Richards’ engraved along the bottom of the lock plates, not along the top margin; absence of flash fences at the breech balls; no engraving on the rib; silver breech vent plugs; serial number 2xxx inside the lock plates and on the barrel lugs; no serial number on the trigger tang or on the lock plates. I hunt with this WR on a regular basis. Any thoughts as to period of manufacture?

    • If you let me know the serial number rather than 2xxx I will let you know the dates. Please confirm it does say Westley Richards and not W. Richards also.

      • Thank you. This piece is Westley Richards, serial number 2743. This number is on the locks(inside), and the barrel hooks. The maker name is on the lower margin of the locks. The triggers and trigger bow are very much the style of Manton. There is no maker name on the rib. I will provide photos if this will assist in identifying this WR.

  7. Mr. Close,
I will add that Mr. Ricky Bond has been exceedingly generous in my attempt to date this WR. I have sent a couple of photos to Mr. Bond. Also, this piece is similar to the WR in the photo of the Double Gun Journal, issue 8, no. 2, page 129. There are differences suggesting my WR is of an earlier manufacture.
